Jeju Fire and Safety Headquarters is taking steps to prevent assaults on 119 emergency responders which have been constantly occurring in the province.

To reduce the risk of assaults by drunk callers for example, both police and fire department will respond simultaneously to take preemptive measures, and actively collect evidence to prepare for any future legal action that may be required.

They will also operate a task force team for investigating assault cases and strengthening penalties. Measures will include establishing a post-management program that includes psychological treatment and financial support for victims.

In the past three years, there have been 17 cases of 119 emergency staff assaults in Jeju, with only one case leading to an arrest.

제주소방안전본부가 지속적으로 발생하는 119구급대원의 폭행피해 예방을 위한 대책 마련에 나섭니다.

특히 주취 신고자 등 폭행 상황이 우려될 경우 경찰과 소방 펌프차량이 동시에 출동해 선제 대응하고 채증장비를 적극 활용해 관련 증거 수집과 함께 향후 법적조치에 대비합니다.

폭행피해 수사 전담팀을 운영해 처벌을 강화하고 피해대원에 대한 심리치료와 비용 지원 등 사후관리 프로그램도 마련합니다.

최근 3년간 제주에서 발생한 119 구급대원 폭행사례는 모두 17건으로 구속된 사례는 1건 뿐입니다.
