Abandoned Ships Float for Years


This is (모슬포) Moseulpo South Port.
It is a crucial spot for catching large yellowtail and connecting with Jeju’s dependent islets of (마라도) Marado and (가파도) Gapado.

Next to the fish farming facility where yellowtail and amberjack are kept, an old, worn-out ship catches the eye.

This abandoned ship was once used as a cargo vessel, but has been left unused for a long time.
Various parts of the ship are rusted and cracked, as if it has not been touched by human hands in ages.

There is a risk of potential accidents due to the abandoned ship, and if it collides with the temporary fish storage facility, the fish caught by fishermen may be lost, or there may be significant problems.

The situation is similar in (모슬포) Moseulpo North Port, which is also suffering from abandoned ships.
Two vessels, including a fishing boat and a leisure boat, are left almost sinking.
It is estimated that this fishing boat has been abandoned at sea for over 10 years.

As a sign that the ship has been abandoned for a long time, grass has grown on the vessel.

This place is adjacent to the Olle Trail, making it an eyesore to slow walkers.

As it is on the Olle Trail, it would not be pleasant for walkers. Such abandoned ships leave a negative impression. It would be better to deal with these issues as soon as possible.

Most fishing boats are made of fiberglass reinforced plastic, and if they are left unattended for a long time, plastic components can leach out and pollute the water quality.

If there is any chance of oil leakage from the abandoned ships, it could cause significant damage to the marine environment.

Abandoned ships should be removed by their owners, but it is often difficult to find the owners, and administrative authorities face difficulties in dealing with them due to budget constraints.

There is an urgent need to develop measures to deal with abandoned ships as they not only harm the beauty of the port but also the marine environment.





폐선박 수년째 둥둥…환경오염 우려


대방어의 고장이자
제주도 본섬과 마라·가파도를 잇는 모슬포남항.

방어와 부시리 등 활어를 보관하고 있는
가두리 시설 옆으로 낡은 배 한 척이 눈에 띕니다.

화물을 운반하는 바지선으로 쓰이다가 버려진 폐선박입니다.

장기간 사람의 손길이 닿지 않은 듯
곳곳이 녹슬고 갈라졌습니다.

방치를 하다 보면 혹시 모를 사고가 발생할 수 있는데 그로 인해 활어 임시 보관 장소와 충돌하면 어민들이 잡아온 고기들이 방생되거나 큰 문제가 발생할 우려가 있습니다.

모슬포북항도 폐선박으로 몸살을 앓긴 마찬가지입니다.

어선과 레저용 보트 등 두 척이
사실상 침몰된 상태로 방치돼 있습니다.
이 어선은 10년 넘게 해상에 방치된 것으로 추정되고 있습니다.

버려진 지 오랜 시간이 지났다는 걸 보여주듯
선박 위로는 수풀까지 자랐습니다.

심지어 이곳은 올레길과 맞닿아 있어
올레꾼들에게는 흉물스럽기까지 합니다.

(올레길) 코스이기 때문에 지나가는데 이런 폐선이 있으면 보기도 안 좋고 관광객들에게 인상도 안 좋을 것 같습니다. 이런 것들은 빨리 (처리됐으면 좋겠습니다.)

어선 대부분은 섬유강화플라스틱으로 만들어져
장기간 방치될 경우
플라스틱 성분이 흘러나와 수질을 오염시킵니다.

또 폐선박에서
자칫 기름이라도 유출되면
해양 환경에 큰 피해를 줄 수 있습니다.

폐선박은 배 주인이 이동시켜야 하지만
소유주를 찾기 어려운 경우가 많고
행정당국은 예산 문제로 처리에 어려움을 겪고 있습니다.

항구의 미관은 물론 해양 환경도 해치면서
방치 선박에 대한 대책 마련이 시급해 보입니다.
