The construction of the third underwater power cable connecting Jeju and other regions will begin in earnest.

On the 18th, Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) held a ceremony to mark the start of underwater cable installation at the (삼양동) Samyang-dong thermal power plant in Jeju City.

This power cable, the third to be built in Jeju, is 96 kilometers long from the (동제주) Dongjeju substation in (삼양동) Samyang-dong to (완도) Wando, (전라남도) Jeollanam-do, with a capacity of 200 MW. It is expected to be completed in December of this year.

In particular, a different voltage type technology from the existing power cables will be introduced, allowing power reception and vice versa.

As a result, it is expected that the stability of power supply and the issue of output control of renewable energy will be somewhat alleviated.




제주-완도 해저 전력 케이블 건설…역전송 가능


제주와 다른 지방을 잇는
제3 해저 전력 케이블이 본격적으로 건설됩니다.

한국전력은
지난 18일 제주시 삼양동 화력발전소에서
제주-완도 해저케이블 포설 착수실을 개최했습니다.

제주에서 세번째로 구축되는 이번 전력 케이블은
제주시 삼양동에 있는 동제주변전소에서
전라남도 완도까지 96km 길이에
2백 MW 규모로
올해 12월 준공됩니다.

특히 기존 전력 케이블과 다른 전압형 기술이 도입돼
다른 지역에서
전력을 받을 수 있을 뿐 아니라
제주에서 발생한 전력을 역전송 할 수 있게 됩니다.

이에따라
전력수급 안정화와 함께
신재생에너지 출력제어 문제가
다소나마 완화될 것으로 기대하고 있습니다.
