Jeju Island has announced its basic plan called ‘2040 Plastic Zero Jeju,’ with a goal of reducing plastic usage by 50% and achieving a 100% recycling rate by 2040.

To achieve this, Jeju will invest 1.813 trillion won in five sectors and 30 detailed projects, including reducing plastic waste, expanding recycling, and establishing resource circulation infrastructure.

The plan aims to reduce plastic waste by expanding the use of reusable containers and to enhance resource circulation infrastructure, including a large-scale waste recovery center capable of processing 140 tons per day.
Jeju will begin with a pilot operation this month.

제주도가 오는 2040년까지 플라스틱 사용을 50% 줄이고 재활용률을 100%까지 끌어올리는 내용의
'2040 플라스틱 제로 제주' 기본 계획을 발표했습니다.

이에 따라 오는 2040년까지 플라스틱 발생 저감과 재활용 확대, 자원순환 인프라 구축 등 5개 부문, 30개 세부과제에 1조 813억 원을 투입합니다.

우선 일회용에서 다회용기 전환을 확대하는 등
플라스틱 발생을 원천적으로 저감해 나가는 한편
하루 140톤 처리 규모의 광역 생활자원 회수센터를
이달부터 시범 가동하는 등
자원순환 인프라를 확충해 나갈 계획입니다.
