Driver Inattention Cited in Half of Crashes

It has been revealed that over half of the traffic accidents in Jeju Island are caused by driver inattention, such as the use of mobile phones, resulting in unsafe driving.

According to the Road Traffic Authority, out of the over 4,000 traffic accidents that occurred in the Jeju region last year, around 2,060 accidents were caused by failure to comply with the obligation of safe driving, accounting for 51.2%.

Common causes of "failure to comply with the obligation of safe driving" include the use of mobile phones while driving, lack of attention to the front, and drowsy driving.

Following driver inattention, accidents caused by failure to maintain a safe distance, traffic signal violations, and crossing of the centerline were the next leading causes.

제주도내 교통사고의 절반 이상이
휴대폰 사용 같은
안전 운전 부주의 때문에 발생한 것으로 나타났습니다.

도로교통공단에 따르면
지난해 제주지역에서 발생한 교통사고 4천여 건 가운데
안전운전 의무 불이행으로 인한 사고는
2천 60여 건으로
51.2%를 차지했습니다.

'안전운전 의무 불이행' 유행 으로는
운전 중 휴대폰 사용이나
전방 주시 태만,
졸음 운전 등이 많은 것으로 파악됐습니다.

부주의에 이어
안전거리 미확보나 신호 위반,
중앙선 침범으로 인한 사고가 뒤를 이었습니다.
