A 6-year prison sentence was handed down to a man in his 40s who was found guilty of sexual assault that occurred 15 years ago with the help of DNA testing.

The Jeju District Court’s 2nd Criminal Division sentenced the 42-year-old defendant, identified as Mr. A, for forcibly taking the victim, who was at a bus stop, to a lodging facility in June 2008, together with an acquaintance, and sexually assaulting her.

At the time of the crime, the police were unable to identify the suspect as there was no witness, and no DNA to be used as evidence found from the crime scene. However, Mr. A was later apprehended for a different sexual offense, and it was through a DNA test that his involvement in the crime committed 15 years ago was revealed.
