Amid growing concerns about the safety of seafood due to the imminent release of contaminated water from Fukushima, Jeju Island is launching the nation's first pilot test on a radiation-safe seafood village.

Once designated as a radiation-safe village, fish such as flatfish, abalone, and clams that are cultivated and harvested in the village will undergo radiation inspections. If they pass the safety standards, they will receive the government's safety certification.

Applications for pilot villages will be accepted until the end of this month, including fishing communities and aquaculture sites.

Meanwhile, the government plans to expand the project nationwide based on the results and achievements of the pilot operation of the radiation-safe seafood village.




전국 최초 '수산물 방사능 안전마을' 시범 운영


후쿠시마 오염수 방류가 임박하면서
수산물 안전성 우려가 커지고 있는 가운데
제주도가 전국 최초로
수산물 방사능 안전마을 시범사업을 시작합니다.

방사능 안전마을로 지정되면
마을에서 기르고 수확하는
넙치와 소라, 톳 등에 대해 방사능 검사가 이뤄지고
적합 판정을 받으면
정부의 안전 인증이 주어집니다.

시범마을 신청은
어촌계와 양식장이 있는 마을 단위로
이달 말까지 접수합니다.

한편, 정부는
수산물 방사능 안전마을 시범사업 성과를 바탕으로
사업을 전국으로 확대할 방침입니다.
