The construction of an underground tunnel near Jeju International Airport, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion, is near completion, and will potentially open temporarily as early as next week.

Jeju City has announced that the underground tunnel portion of the airport construction project will be completed this month, and a temporary opening is being planned for the middle of the month.

After the temporary opening, any issues or concerns will be addressed and improved upon, with the goal of a full opening by the end of August.

Once the underground tunnel is open, vehicles traveling between the Yongdam and Shinjeju areas will be able to use the tunnel without having to pass through the airport entrance intersection.

The project has a budget of 28.5 billion won, with 520 meters of the 900-meter section being developed as an underground tunnel.

제주국제공항 주변 교통체증 해소를 위해 추진되고 있는
지하차도 개설공사가 마무리되면서 빠르면 다음 주에 임시 개통합니다.

제주시는
공항 지하도 개설공사 가운데
지하차도 부분이 완료됨에 따라
이달 중순 임시 개통한다고 밝혔습니다.

임시 개통 후 문제점 등을 파악해 보완하고
8월 말 완전 개통한다는 계획입니다.

지하차도가 개통되면
용담지역과 신제주 지역을 오가는 차량은
공항입구 교차로를 거치지 않고
바로 지하차도를 이용할 수 있게 됩니다.

이번 사업은
285억원이 예산이 투입됐으며
900m 구간 가운데 520m가 지하차도로 만들어졌습니다
