According to the Jeju Branch of the Bank of Korea, the number of tourists who visited Jeju last month was 1.152 million, a decrease of 132,000 compared to the same month last year.

The overall decrease in the number of tourists is attributed to an increase in overseas travel and a reduction in domestic flight routes to Jeju.

In addition, the housing market has been stagnant, with a 7.3% decrease in construction starts area and a 28.5% decrease in construction permits area in May compared to the previous year.

The Jeju Branch of the Bank of Korea has attributed the recent constraints on Jeju economy's recovery to the decline in tourist arrivals and the sluggish housing market, despite the improvement in consumer sentiment.



관광객 감소·주택경기 부진에 경제 회복 더뎌


관광수요 감소와 주택경기 부진 등의 영향으로
제주경제가 더딘 회복세를 보이는 것으로 나타났습니다.

한국은행 제주본부에 따르면
지난달 제주를 찾은 관광객은 115만 2천명으로
지난해 같은 달과 비교해 13만 2천명 감소했습니다.

해외여행 증가와
제주행 국내 항공노선이 축소되면서
전체 관광객 수가 줄어든 것으로 분석됐습니다.

이와 함께 주택시장이 침체되면서
지난 5월 건축착공면적은 1년 전보다 7.3%
건축허가면적은 28.5% 각각 감소했습니다.

한국은행 제주본부는
소비심리 회복에도 관광객 감소와 주택시장 부진으로
최근 제주경제의 회복세가 제약되고 있다고 설명했습니다.
