Jeju Island has reported its first death caused by Severe Fever with SFTS this year.

The unfortunate incident occurred in Seogwipo City, where a 49-year-old resident, Mr. A, received a positive diagnosis for SFTS and passed away on the 12th of this month while undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the patient had disclosed having contact with a stray cat. Health authorities are currently conducting an epidemiological investigation to determine the precise route of infection.

Given that there are no available vaccines or specific treatments for SFTS, which is transmitted by ticks, Jeju Island has emphasized the importance of taking extra precautions to prevent tick bites.
