Man Arrested for Attacking Elderly


A man suddenly stops at a pedestrian crossing.
He stares back at a woman in her 80s walking behind him.
As soon as she passes, he inexplicably strikes her.


The woman falls to the ground as the assailant continues across the pedestrian crossing as if nothing has happened.

The entire unprovoked attack took just seconds, but the elderly woman suffered injuries that required two weeks of treatment.


Just four days earlier, at another nearby pedestrian crossing, a man in his 80s suffered a similar unprovoked attack.


After tracing the suspect's movements, police apprehended a man in his 30s with no apparent connection to his elderly victims.


The attacks, which occurred during the day in a busy downtown area surrounded by numerous apartment buildings, have local residents worried.

After a police investigation, the suspect has also been linked to assaults involving two other individuals during disputes at a bus stop and a supermarket parking lot earlier this month.

It has been reported that when the suspect committed these new crimes, he was on probation for a special assault offense dating back to the end of last year.

The suspect claims to have no memory of the incidents and refused to provide a statement.

Nevertheless, the police have detained him on charges of assault and causing bodily injuries. They are currently gathering evidence of other possible crimes.

폭행을 당한 여성은 그 자리에 쓰러졌고
남성은 아무일 없던 것 처럼 다시 횡단보도를 건넙니다.

불과 10여 초 만에 일어난 폭행 사건.

70대 피해 여성은
묻지마 폭행으로
전치 2주의 상해를 입었습니다.

이보다 나흘 전,
인근 교차로 횡단보도에서도
80대 어르신이
유사한 폭행 피해를 당했습니다.

경찰이 동선을 추적해 잡고보니
피의자는
30대 남성의 동일 인물이었습니다.

피해 어르신들과는 일면식도 없는 사이었습니다.

아파트가 밀집한 제주시내 한 복판에서
유동인구가 많은 오전과 낮 시간대 발생한 폭행 사건에
주민들도 큰 충격을 받았습니다.

경찰 수사 결과
피의자 A 씨는 이달 초와 중순에도
버스정류장과 마트 주차장에서
시비가 붙은 피해자 2명을 폭행한 혐의도 드러났습니다.

더구나 지난해 말 특수 상해 등의 혐의로
집행유예를 선고받은 기간에 범행을
저지른 것으로 전해졌습니다.

피의자는 기억이 없다며 진술을 거부하고 있는데
경찰은 폭행과 상해 등의 혐의로 피의자를 구속하고
여죄를 파악하고 있습니다.
