Following the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions, there has been a notable surge in the utilization of public libraries.

According to the province, during the first half of this year, the number of local residents visiting public libraries reached 852,000, an impressive 65% increase compared to the same period last year.

Additionally, the number of books borrowed has also shown substantial growth, totaling 1,067,000 books, a 45% increase compared to the previous year.

Notably, in the case of libraries in Jocheon, Aewol, and Pyoseon, there has been an enthusiastic reading trend among rural residents, with more than 40,000 books being borrowed in just the first half of this year.

제주특별자치도에 따르면
올 상반기동안 도내 공공도서관을 찾은 도민은
85만 2천여명으로
지난해 같은 기간에 비해 65% 증가했습니다.

또 도서 대출권수는
106만 7천권으로
작년 대비 45% 늘어났습니다.

특히 조천과 애월, 표선도서관의 경우
올 상반기에만 4만여권의 도서가 대출되는 등
농어촌 주민들의 독서 열기가 이어지고 있습니다.
