Special School Branch Establishment Justified

The results of a research project for the policy study on establishing a branch campus of a special school in the eastern region of Jeju have been released.

During the concluding presentation of the policy study, Professor (김민호) Kim Minho from Jeju National University emphasized that, according to surveys conducted with parents, local residents, and experts, there is strong justification for establishing a special school branch in the region.

Kim emphasized establishment of the branch school will help alleviate transportation challenges for students with disabilities, improve accessibility, and enhance the acceptance by nearby residents.

He also pointed out that while the school-age population is expected to decline until 2027, the number of students requiring special education is to increase, making the proposal beneficial in addressing overcrowding issues.

동부지역에 특수학교 분교가 설립되면
장애학생의 통학난 해소와 교육 접근성 제고,
그리고 인근 주민들의 수용성 등을 고려할 때
타당하다고 밝혔습니다.

특히 오는 2027년까지 학령인구는 감소하는 것과 달리
특수교육대상자는 늘어나는 것으로 예측되고 있다며
현재 제주영지학교의 과밀 해소에도 도움이 될 것이라고
덧붙였습니다.
