First Dengue Fever Case in Jeju This Year

The first dengue fever case of the year has been reported in Jeju, calling for caution and attention.

According to Jeju Health and Environment Research Institute, a male in his 50s, referred to as A, who recently visited a Southeast Asian country, showed symptoms such as rash and fever after returning to the country.
Upon visiting a hospital, he tested positive for dengue fever on the 3rd day of his arrival.

Dengue fever, transmitted through mosquitoes, has an incubation period of 3 to 14 days and presents symptoms including fever, chills, headache, and muscle pain. Currently, there is no preventive vaccine or specific treatment available for the disease.

The number of cases has increased significantly, reaching 83 cases as of last month, a 3.7-fold increase compared to the previous year. All cases have been attributed to overseas transmissions.

In response to the situation, Jeju authorities advise overseas travelers to avoid mosquito bites. If any unusual symptoms appear, individuals are urged to seek immediate medical attention.

지난 3일 뎅기열 확진 판정을 받은 것으로 확인됐습니다.

모기를 매개체로 하는 뎅기열은
감염 후 3~14일의 잠복기를 거쳐
발열과 오한, 두통, 근육통의 증상을 보이며
현재 예방 백신과 치료제가 없는 상탭니다.

국내 뎅기열 환자는
지난달 기준 83명으로 지난해보다 3.7배 증가했으며
모두 해외 유입 사례입니다.

제주도는
해외 방문 계획이 있을 경우
모기에 물리지 않도록 주의하고
이상 증상이 발현되면 즉시 병원을 찾을 것을 당부했습니다.
