Jeju has witnessed a notable increase in bicycle traffic accidents since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over the past five years, there have been 292 bicycle accidents in the region, resulting in four fatalities.

Particularly concerning is the 32% increase in bicycle accidents last year, with 69 cases reported and two fatalities.

This is the highest number of annual bicycle accidents since 2019.

The Korea Road Traffic Authority attributes this spike to the relaxation of social distancing measures, which has led to more tourists exploring Jeju by bicycle, contributing to the rise in accidents.

자전거 교통사고가 코로나 이후 크게 증가한 것으로
나타났습니다.

도로교통공단에 따르면
제주에서는 최근 5년 간 자전거 교통사고가 292건 발생해
4명이 사망했습니다.

특히 지난해 자전거 사고건수는 69건으로
전년에 비해 32% 증가하고 사망자도 2명이나 발생한 것으로
집계됐습니다.

한 해 자전거 사고건수가 60건이 넘은 것은
지난 2019년 이후 3년 만으로
도로교통공단은 거리두기 해제로 자전거 제주 일주에 나서는
관광객이 늘면서 사고도 급증한 것으로 분석했습니다.
