50-Year-Old Arrested for Voice Phishing

The Jeju Dongbu Police arrested a man in his 50s for impersonating a postal worker and fraudulently collected over 30 million KRW in a voice phishing scheme.

According to the police, the suspect, identified as Mr. A, pretended to be a post officer and convinced the victim that their personal information had been compromised. He then persuaded the victim to withdraw cash and place it in their apartment mailbox for collection where he intercepted and stole 35 million KRW from the victim.

Mr. A fled to Seoul but was apprehended in Daegu’s Buk-gu district just 11 days later.

During investigations, Mr. A admitted to passing on some of the stolen money to an accomplice on the day of the crime and stated that he had committed the act out of financial desperation.

우체국 직원 사칭 보이스피싱 50대 구속

제주동부경찰서는
우체국 직원을 사칭해 3천여 만원을 가로챈
보이스피싱 현금 수거책인 50대를 구속했습니다.

경찰에 따르면 피의자 A씨는
지난 7일 우체국 직원을 사칭해
개인정보가 유출됐다고 속여
계좌에 있는 현금을 인출해
아파트 우편함에 놓으라고 한 뒤
이를 가로채는 수법으로
피해자로부터 3천 5백만원을 편취한 혐의를 받고 있습니다.

A씨는 범행 직후
서울로 도주했으며,
신고 접수 11일 만에
대구 북구에서 검거됐습니다.

경찰 조사에서 A씨는
범행 당일 중간 수거책에게 돈을 넘겼으며
돈이 필요해 범행을 저질렀다고
진술한 것으로 알려졌습니다.
