Illegal parking near fire hydrants continues unabated, prompting a concentrated crackdown by the fire department.
As a result of comprehensive crackdowns across Jeju, nine violations were reported within just two hours.
Parking in front of fire hydrants can obstruct firefighters from accessing the hydrant, which can slow down the process of putting out a fire.
Consequently, fines for sedans have been doubled to 80,000 won since 2019, and for vans, they have been raised to 90,000 won.
Red lines have been used to make it clear that it is a no-parking zone, but people continue to park there illegally.
More than 3,700 cases of illegal parking near fire hydrants have been reported in the past three years.
Illegal parking has been on the rise this year, with over 740 cases reported until last month, a sharp increase from the decreasing trend seen in previous years.

Parking illegally near fire hydrants blocks fire trucks from accessing the hydrants and getting the water they need to fight fires. To prevent this, we conduct illegal parking crackdowns at least once a month.
One thing is clear: the public's active cooperation is essential to helping ensure that firefighters can do their job safely and effectively.
