Urban Horticulture Enriches City Life


Jeju's 4.3 Peace Park is bursting with colorful flowers.

People gather to plant autumn flowers like chrysanthemums and marigolds, creating a picturesque landscape.


Urban horticulture experts engage in gardening activities in urban areas, cultivating vegetable gardens and flower gardens.

For those living in rural areas or those who desire rural living but are unable to do so, urban horticultural activities allow them to cultivate gardens and share the joy of gardening, ultimately improving their quality of life.

All the members gathered here have obtained Master Gardener qualifications through a combination of agricultural education and volunteer work.


As Master Gardeners, they engage in volunteer gardening activities at social welfare facilities and schools, and play a role in sharing various horticultural techniques.

I've always loved flowers, and by volunteering with various people, I've gained valuable information and shared my own knowledge. While I'm part of several volunteer organizations, being here brings me a sense of fulfillment.

Members can improve their mental health and get a sense of pride through productive leisure activities related to agriculture.

They also gain an appreciation for the significance and importance of agriculture.

We inform urban residents about agriculture, enhance city life, create eco-friendly spaces, and raise awareness for agriculture among the younger generation..

The Jeju Agricultural Technology Center plans to expand the availability of urban horticulture courses, making agriculture more accessible to urban residents.

They will provide training on a variety of topics, including urban horticulture, therapeutic agriculture, correct pesticide usage methods for different crops, and practical agricultural material training.


Educational programs like these, which make the most of agricultural resources, are expected to help create eco-friendly urban environments and improve city dwellers’ quality of life.



[영농] "정원·텃밭 가꿔요"…도시원예 전문가 육성

도심속에서 텃밭과 정원 가꾸기 활동을 하는
도시원예 전문가들입니다.

전원생활을 하면서 또는 전원생활을 원하는데 하지 못하는 분들이 도시 원예 활동으로 텃밭을 가꾸고 꽃을 가꾸고 나누고 심으면서 생활을 좀 더 윤택하게 하는 겁니다.

이곳에 모인 회원들은 모두
일정시간 이상의 농업 교육과 봉사활동을 통해
마스터가드너 자격을 얻었습니다.


마스터가드너로 활동하면서
사회복지시설이나 학교 등에 가서
정원가꾸기 봉사활동을 하거나
다양한 원예기술을 전파하는 역할을 하고 있습니다.

꽃을 좋아했고 또 여러 사람들과 봉사를 하다 보면 좋은 정보를 얻을 수 있고 제가 아는 정보를 나누기도 하고 그래서 다른 봉사 단체도 많이 가입돼 있지만 여기는 정말 뿌듯함을 갖고….

농업과 관련한 생산적인 여가활동을 통해
회원들은 정신적 안정감과 뿌듯함을 느낍니다.

또 농업에 대한 가치와
우리 농산물에 대한 소중함도 깨닫게 됩니다.

농업, 농촌의 그런 공익적 가치를 도시민에게 알리는 역할도 하고 도시 속에서 삶의 질 향상이라든지 자연친화적인 도시 공간 조성 이런 역할도 하고 또 어린 후계 세대의 농업에 대한 이해도를 높이기 위해서 이 사업을 추진하고 있습니다.

도시원예와 치유농업 교육을 비롯해
작물별 올바른 농약사용방법과
농자재 실습까지 다양한 주제로 교육을 실시할 예정입니다.

다양한 농업자원을 활용한 교육들이
도심 속
자연친화적인 환경을 조성하고
도시민들의 삶의 질을 향상하는 역할을 할 것으로 보입니다.
