Recently, Jeju has raised the basic taxi fare for the first time in four years, amidst backlash over the amount of the increase in the industry.

According to the taxi industry, the basic fare has been confirmed to increase by 800 won, from 3,300 won to 4,100 won, but there are protests as it was initially discussed that the increase should be 1,000 won. They have recently visited Jeju to express their objections.

Jeju officials have said that raising prices further will be tough after talks with the price committee. Still, they're considering an 800-won bump after more discussions next month.

Meanwhile, on the 12th of last month, the province increased the taxi fare from 3,300 to 4,100 won, an increase of 800 won.



택시업계, 요금 인상폭 불만…제주도, "추가 인상 없어"


최근 제주도가 4년 만에 택시 기본요금을 인상한 가운데 업계에서 인상폭을 놓고 반발하고 있습니다.

택시업계 등에 따르면 기본요금이 기존 3,300원에서 4,100원으로 800원 인상이 확정됐지만 당초 논의 대로 1천원을 인상해야 한다며 최근 제주도를 찾아 항의한 것으로 알려졌습니다.

제주도는 물가대책위 심의를 거친 만큼 추가 인상은 어렵다며 조만간 업계와 재협의를 거쳐다음 달부터 800원 인상안을 적용하겠다 밝혔습니다.
한편, 제주도는 지난 12일 택시 요금을 기존 3천300원에서 800원 올린 4천100원으로 인상한 바 있습니다.
