Sehwa-ri(세화리) in Gujwa-eup(구좌읍) and Dongbaek Village located in Shinheung-2ri(신흥2리), Namwon-eup(남원읍) have been selected as the top villages in the 3rd UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Tourism Village competition.

According to Jeju authorities, these villages were recommended by relevant institutions after the competition began in April and were selected after reviews by the Korea Tourism Organization and the UNWTO.

Sehwa-ri has local residents directly selling tourism products focused on Jeju Haenyeo (female divers), stone walls, and carrots. Similarly, (동백) Dongbaek Village has established various tourism systems utilizing camellia resources.

Meanwhile, the UNWTO's Best Tourism Village competition aims to address sustainable local tourism development, rural area imbalance, and population decline issues in the tourism industry and has been conducted since 2021.



세화·신흥2리, 유엔세계관광기구 최우수 마을 선정


구좌읍 세화리와 남원읍 신흥2리 동백마을이 제3회 유엔세계관광기구 관광마을 공모전에서 최우수 마을에 선정됐습니다.

제주도에 따르면 이들 마을은 지난 4월 공모 시작 후 유관기관을 통해 추천 받아 한국관광공사와 유엔세계관광기구 심사를 거쳐 선정됐습니다.

구좌읍 세화리는 해녀와 밭담, 당근을 활용한 관광 상품을 지역 주민들이 직접 판매하고 있고, 남원읍 신흥2리 동백마을도 동백 자원을 활용한 다양한 관광체계를 구축하고 있습니다.

한편, 유엔세계관광기구 최우수 관광마을 공모전은 지속가능한 지역관광 개발과 농어촌 지역 불균형, 인구 감소 문제를 관광으로 해결하기 위해 지난 2021년부터 시행되고 있습니다.
