Lumpy skin disease is on the rise nationwide, prompting heightened preventive measures for cattle farms, especially in Jeju.

The Province is discouraging outsiders from entering cattle farms and has increased the frequency of disinfection around the farms from periodically to once a day.

There are over 700 cattle farms, with approximately 42,000 animals including Korean native cattle, beef cattle, and dairy cows being raised in the Jeju area.

So far, no suspected cases of lumpy skin disease have been found and Jeju has been managed as a disease-free zone for cattle infectious diseases for decades.

Lumpy skin disease, a Type 1 livestock infectious disease, is a viral disease that occurs only in cattle, and is known to be transmitted by blood-sucking insects such as mosquitoes.


소 럼피스킨병 전국 확산 '비상'…방역·예찰 강화

전국적으로
럼피스킨병 감염 농가가 늘고 있는 가운데
제주에서도 소 사육농가에 대한 차단 방역이
강화되고 있습니다.

제주도는
소사육농가에 외부인 출입을 자제하고
비정기적으로 하던 농가 주변 방역을
하루에 한번씩 실시하고 있습니다.

제주 지역 소 사육농가는 7백여 곳으로
한우와 육우, 젖소 4만 2천여 마리가 사육 중입니다.

지금까지 럼피스킨 의심 사례는 발견되지 않았고
수십년 동안 제주는 소 가축 전염병 청정지역으로
관리됐습니다.

제1종 가축전염병인 럼피스킨병은
소에게만 발생하는 바이러스성 질병으로
모기 등 흡혈 곤충이 매개체로 알려져 있습니다.
