The price of cabbages, once referred to as "as expensive as gold," has been on the decline recently.

This somewhat eases the economic burden on households as the Kimchi-making season approaches.

As per the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation, the price of summer cold-bed cultivated cabbages at the Jeju Dongmun(동문) Market on the 20th stood at 7,660 won per head. This is a 15% decrease from 9,000 won just a week prior.

After a period of rising, cabbage prices have started to decline due to an influx of cultivation entering the market.

The Korea Rural Economic Institute predicts that by next month, as autumn cabbages start hitting the market, prices will likely stabilize to levels seen in previous years.



김장철 앞두고 배춧값 '하락'…1포기 7,660원


금값으로 불리던 배추 가격이
최근 하락세를 보이면서 김장철을 앞두고
서민경제 부담이 다소 완화되고 있습니다.

한국농수산식품유통공사에 따르면
지난 20일 제주동문시장에서 거래된
여름 고랭지 배추 가격은 1포기에 7천660원으로
일주일 전 9천원과 비교해 15% 내렸습니다.

배추가격은 한동안 급등했으나
최근 고랭지 배추 출하 물량이 늘면서
하락세에 접어든 것으로 풀이됩니다.

한국농촌경제연구원은
가을배추가 시장에 출하되는 다음 달에는
예년 수준의 가격대를 형성할 것으로 전망했습니다.
