Airport Lanes Undergo Facelift


The bus-exclusive lanes around the airport were established six years ago.


They were expected to facilitate smooth traffic flow, but turned out to be inefficient.
Buses and taxis drive on lanes where signals are on.

The exclusive lanes are often empty, while the two general lanes are congested.

I hardly use the priority lane coming down to the airport. That lane. It's slower. Waiting there takes much longer than the regular lane next to it. The lane is empty. Both of them.

Eventually, the exclusive lanes around the airport will be scaled back.

One of the two exclusive lanes for entering the airport will be reduced and converted to a regular lane.

The 600-meter uphill exclusive lane from the airport to (신제주) sin-Jeju is being revoked due to low usage and a problematic structure where the lane is interrupted in the middle.
This is the first revocation of exclusive lanes since their establishment.

Jeju City plans to renovate the signal system and lanes, followed by a trial run.

It's challenging for us to do this across the board, so we're looking at revoking it in some sections as soon as possible after a joint inspection. We aim to do it this month.


Exclusive lanes for taxis and buses, available since the introduction of the semi-public system in 2017, were expanded throughout Jeju City.

However, the airport lanes, controversial for their effectiveness, are ultimately being phased out.

공항 일대 버스 전용차로는 6년 전 조성됐습니다.

원활한 교통 흐름을 기대했지만 효율성은 떨어졌습니다.

버스와 택시가
신호가 켜진 차선을
입맛대로 주행하기 때문입니다.

정작 전용차로는 텅텅 비고
두개 차선인 일반차로만 혼잡이 빚어집니다.

공항으로 내려오는 우선차로는 거의 안 써요. 그 차선은.
더 늦어지니까. 거기에 대기하면 옆에 있는 일반차로보다
훨씬 늦어요. 차선이 텅텅 빈다니까요. 두 개나.

결국 공항 일대 전용차로가 축소 조정됩니다.

한개로 줄이고 일반차로로 전환합니다.

공항에서 신제주로 가는
오르막 전용차로 600미터 구간은
이용량이 적고
중간에 차선이 끊기는 기형적 구조여서 해제합니다.

전용차로 조성 이후 지정 해제는 이번이 처음입니다.

제주시는
조만간 신호체계와
차선 등을 새롭게 정비한 뒤 시범운행할 예정입니다.

저희가 전체적으로는 힘들고 일부 구간만 해제하는 쪽으로 해서 최대한 빨리 합동점검을 해서 의견을 들어봐야 합니다.
이달 중에 최대한 하려고 합니다.
