In the 10 years since the Province’s designation as a horse industry special zone, the number of horse breeding farms and equestrian centers in Jeju City has significantly increased, but the number of horses bred has slightly decreased.

According to Jeju City, the number of horse breeding farms increased from 549 in 2016 to 790 last year, and the number of equestrian centers rose from 20 to 36 during the same period.

In particular, rural equestrian facilities have seen a significant increase, from just one in 2013 to 24 last year, following the relaxation of the 'Horse Industry Development Act.'

On the other hand, the number of horses bred has slightly decreased due to the reduced utilization of Halla horses in horse racing.

말산업 특구 지정 이후 10년 동안
제주시 지역 말 사육농가와 승마장은 크게 늘었지만
사육두수는 소폭 감소한 것으로 나타났습니다.

제주시에 따르면
말 사육농가는 2016년 549개 농가에서 지난해 790개 농가로,
같은 기간 승마장은 20곳에서 36곳으로 증가세를 보였습니다.


특히 농어촌형 승마시설의 경우
'말산업육성법' 완화로 지난 2013년 1곳에서
지난해 24곳으로 크게 늘었습니다.


반면 사육 두수는 올해 제주경마장의 제주마 경마 전면 시행에 따른
한라마의 활용도가 줄면서 소폭 감소한 것으로 집계됐습니다.
