The Jeju Korean Federation for Environmental Movement released a statement urging the government and Jeju to redress the harm suffered by the 12,000 provisional victims of humidifier disinfectants in the Jeju region.

According to investigations held on over 114,000 residents who used humidifier disinfectants, more than 12,000 have suffered health damages, with 10,000 receiving hospital treatment.

However, only 59 residents have reported their damages to the government as of last year, which corresponds to a reporting rate of only 0.48%.

The government and the province urged to actively promote relief efforts for the victims and emphasized that the companies must also take full responsibility.

'제주지역 가습기살균제 피해조사'에 따르면
가습기살균제를 이용한 도민은
11만 4천여 명으로
이 가운데 건강 피해자는 1만 2천 명이 넘고
병원 치료를 받은 도민도 1만 명에 달하고
있다고 밝혔습니다.

하지만,
지난해 까지 정부에 피해 신고를 한 도민은 59명으로
신고 비율은 0.48%에 머물고 있다고 설명했습니다.

정부와 제주도는
피해 구제를 위한 적극적인 홍보에 나서고
가해 기업도 제대로된 배보상 책임을 져야 한다고
강조했습니다.
