The physical economy of Jeju is facing direct impacts due to the decrease in tourists visiting the area.

According to the Bank of Korea's Jeju branch, the number of tourists visiting Jeju last month was 1,033,000, which is a decrease of 117,000 compared to the same month last year.

As a result of the decrease in tourists, credit card spending in October, especially in the food service and accommodation sectors, decreased by 6.8% compared to a year ago.

Additionally, the housing market continues to struggle, leading to a 38.2% decrease in construction commencement area in October, marking a nine-month decline.

In relation to this, the Bank of Korea's Jeju branch explained that the recent economy of Jeju is constrained in its recovery due to the ongoing decrease in tourists, leading to sluggish consumption and employment, and a contraction in the construction industry, particularly in housing construction.

지난 10월 신용카드 사용액은
요식업과 숙박업을 중심으로 1년 전보다 6.8% 감소했습니다.

또 주택시장 부진이 지속되면서
10월 건축착공면적도 38.2% 감소하며 9개월째 하락세를 기록했습니다.

이와 관련 한국은행 제주본부는
최근 제주경제는 관광객 감소세가 이어지면서
소비와 고용이 부진하고
건설경기도
주택건설을 중심으로 위축돼
회복세가 제약되고 있다고 설명했습니다.
