After 36 years, the operation of a submarine in Seogwipo, which has been a subject of controversy due to its impact on the protected area around Munseom(문섬), will be discontinued.

According to the industry, the Cultural Heritage Administration has decided not to reauthorize the operation of the Seogwipo tourist submarine.

The reason for the denial is reportedly due to concerns about the damage to coral colonies caused by the submarine operations.

Meanwhile, the company operating the Seogwipo submarine contends that the decision to deny reauthorization without offering any options for corrective measures or a process for reconsideration is excessively harsh.
