The emergency medical centers for intoxicated persons at general hospitals are expected to close doors as the police force stationed there withdraws.

According to the Jeju Provincial Police Agency, the police have recently informed Jeju National University Hospital and Seogwipo Medical Center of their plans to terminate the operation of the emergency medical centers for intoxicated persons, citing a shortage of public safety personnel.

Since 2019, three police officers have been stationed at the emergency medical centers of Halla Hospital, Seogwipo Medical Center, and Jeju National University Hospital. However, the daily average number of intoxicated persons taken into custody has been less than one.

Medical institutions are expressing concerns, stating that without the police presence, it will be difficult to respond to incidents of violence against medical staff.

응급의료센터마다 경찰관 3명씩 상주해왔지만
주취자 보호 관리 실적은 하루 평균 1명이 되지
않는 것으로 나타났습니다.

의료기관은
경찰관이 철수하면 의료진 폭행 사건에 대한
대응이 어려워진다며 부정적인 입장을 보이고 있습니다.
