A cultural organization is under investigation for allegedly misusing tens of millions of won in government subsidies.

The Jeju Provincial Police Agency reports that the ex-chairman of a cultural organization and an associate are under suspicion for embezzling around 20 million which was intended for village festival expenses and maintenance projects back in November 2021.

The individuals are facing charges of violating the Local Subsidies Act and the police will decide whether to refer the case to the prosecutor's office after completing investigations.

경찰 조사가 이뤄지고 있습니다.

제주경찰청에 따르면 문화단체 전 이사장 등 2명은
지난 2021년 11월 경 마을 축제 비용이나 정비 사업 등의 명목으로 받은 보조금 집행 과정에서
2천만 원 상당을 지급 당시 용도와 다르게 사용해
지방보조금법 위반 혐의를 받고 있습니다.

경찰은 추가 조사가 마무리되는 대로
검찰 송치 여부 등을 결정할 계획입니다.
