Jeju's economic recovery is facing setbacks due to persistent declines in employment and a downturn in the construction industry.

The Bank of Korea's Jeju branch reports that the construction area initiated in November dropped sharply by 51.3% year-over-year, affected by the sluggish housing market.

Moreover, despite an increase of 30,000 in tourist arrivals to Jeju last month, the region saw a reduction of 8,000 jobs.

While the branch observed that while the surge in tourism and a boost in consumer spending have eased the recent economic downturn to some extent, the recovery is still impeded by the ongoing job losses and the weakness in the construction sector.

고용감소와 건설 부문 부진이 이어지면서

지난 11월 건축착공면적은
주택시장 부진 영향으로
전년 동월 대비 51.3% 큰 폭 감소했습니다.

이와 함께
지난달 제주 방문 관광객수는 3만명 증가한 반면
도내 취업자는 8천명 줄었습니다.

한국은행 제주본부는
관광객 증가와 소비 개선으로
그간의 제주경제 부진 흐름이 다소 완화됐지만
고용 감소와 건설 부진으로
회복세가 제약받고 있다고 설명했습니다.
