Prices Stir Ahead of Lunar New Year


This is the Jeju (동문) Dongmun Outdoor Market.
The price of a single apple in the market has exceeded an average of 3,000 won.
This is a 10% increase compared to a year ago.


Strawberries, a representative winter fruit, are now 2,400 won per 100g, a 17% increase from last year.

Earlier this month, due to the avian influenza outbreak, eggs had surpassed 7,000 won per carton, but have now settled in the 6,000 won range, still a burdensome price.

The problem is that both fruits and eggs, being major holiday essentials, may see further price increases as the Lunar New Year approaches.


In response, the province is implementing special measures for stabilizing prices during the Lunar New Year.

The plan includes a focused crackdown on excessive price hikes and violations of origin labeling.


In anticipation of increased demand for seafood, there are plans to increase stock volumes by 30% in cooperation with the Fisheries Cooperative.
Furthermore, price surveys for 124 items, including Lunar New Year essentials, will be expanded from once to twice a week and published on the provincial website.

We plan to strengthen the management system by designating the period from January 22 to February 12 as a special measure period for the Lunar New Year. We also plan to operate a comprehensive situation room for price stability and enhance on-site inspections.

Stabilizing prices is urgent not only for alleviating the burden on low-income households but also for merchants struggling due to the economic downturn.

We are doing our best, but COVID-19 has greatly changed the shopping culture paradigm. The current situation for offline businesses is very difficult and indeed serious.

The government also plans to supply about 257,000 tons of essential goods for the holiday, approximately 24% more than last year's Lunar New Year, from January 19 to February 8, in an effort to control soaring prices.



"사과 1개 3천원"…설 앞두고 물가 '들썩'


제주동문시장입니다.

시장의 사과 1개 값은 평균 3천원을 넘어섰습니다.

1년 전과 비교하면 10% 오른 가격입니다.

대표 겨울 과일인 딸기는 100g에 2천400원으로
지난해보다 17% 껑충 뛰었습니다.

이달 초 조류 인플루엔자 여파로
한 판에 7천원을 넘어섰던 계란은
현재 6000원대로 내려앉았지만 여전히 부담스러운 가격입니다.

문제는 과일과 계란 모두 주요 명절 성수품인 만큼
설이 다가올수록 가격이 더 오를 수 있다는 점입니다.

이에 제주도는
설 물가 안정을 위한 특별 대책을 실시합니다

우선 과도한 가격 인상과 함께
원산지 표신 위반 행위를 집중 단속합니다.

수산물 수요 증가에 대비해
수협과 협조해 재고 물량을 평소보다 30% 늘릴 계획입니다.

또 설 성수품을 포함한 124개 품목에 대한 가격조사를
주 1회에서 2회로 확대해 도 홈페이지에 공개합니다.
