Due to safety concerns following a rockfall incident in May last year, the Handam coastal walking trail in Aewol will be permanently closed.

Jeju City and Aewoleup have decided to indefinitely close a 40-meter section of the Handam coastal trail, which is where the rockfall incident happened.

In May of last year, a rock weighing approximately 4 tons fell from the cliff along the trail, and a similar incident occurred in 2021.

Jeju City and Aewoleup, warn that the risk of further rockfalls is high, leading to the decision of permanent closure.

40m 구간에 대해 무기한 폐쇄 결정을 내렸습니다.

지난해 5월, 산책로 절벽에서
무게 4톤 정도인 바위가 떨어졌고
지난 2021년에도 낙석 사고가 발생했습니다.

제주시와 애월읍은
주변 도로 공사 등으로 지반이 약해져
추가 낙석 위험이 높아 임시 통제가 아닌
영구 폐쇄하기로 결정했다고 밝혔습니다.
