Doctor Shortage Burdens Health Center Patients
This is a health center in a rural area of Jeju.
Internal medicine services have been suspended since the 21st of last month.
They are unable to provide vaccinations or prescribe medications.
Public health doctors who were working at health centers have been dispatched as replacement staff because the resident doctors have left.
As a result, five public health doctors have filled in at Jeju National University Hospital and Halla Hospital.
Locals who use the health center are being burdened by delays in treatment exceeding two weeks.

I would come here for diabetes tests and prescriptions, as I live in a nearby apartment and have many ailments.
The treatment room, which used to serve about 15 people a day, is now empty due to the absence of public health doctors.
Dozens of patients receiving prescription monitoring or seeking diagnoses at the health center are now out of options. While there are nearby clinics, they may be less convenient or accessible, especially for elderly individuals.

You have to go to the places you usually visit. But if you only try to go when something like this happens, the clinics don't like it, and it's difficult because we're on a single floor while other places have stairs that are too difficult to climb for some.
The initial suspension of treatment will last until April 17th, with the possibility of an extension.
The growing medical void demands government intervention since the current situation offers no alternative.

There are plans to foster general hospitals capable of treating critical emergency patients and to establish a regional comprehensive medical system so that patients do not have to travel to the metropolitan area but can receive treatment near their residence.
The suspension of even basic medical services in rural areas directly impacts local residents, leaving them with significant misgivings.

읍면지역 한 보건지소입니다.
지난 달 21일부터 내과 진료를 중단했습니다.
예방 접종과 약 처방도 하지 못하고 있습니다.
전공의들이 떠난 병원에 대체 인력으로
보건지소에서 근무하던 공중보건의들이 파견 갔기 때문입니다.
이렇게 제주대병원과 한라병원에 공보의 5명이 채워졌습니다.
전공의 이탈 사태로 조천을 비롯해
도내 보건지소 5곳에서 공보의가 공석 상태에 놓여 있습니다.
보건지소를 이용하던 마을 주민들은
진료 중단이 2주째를
넘어가면서 불편이 커지고 있습니다.

여기 하면 당뇨 검사도 잘해주고 약 처방도 딱 해주면 내가 근처 아파트에 살고 아픈 곳도 많으니까 여기에서 진료 받을 건데 그런 얘기를 해도 알아듣지 않으니까
하루 15명 내외 이용하던
진료실도 공보의가 없어지자 텅 비었습니다.
약 처방이나 증상 예후를 살피기 위해
보건지소에서 모니터링을 하는
환자 수십명도 당분간 보건소를 찾지 못하는 상황이고
주변 병의원이 있지만
고령의 어르신들이 이용하기엔
접근성이나 편의성이 떨어집니다.

불편은 고스란히 지역 주민들에게 돌아가고 있습니다.
