As the number of Haenyeos (female divers) declines, Jeju Island has decided to expand its policy for training new Haenyeos.

The Province has finalized a plan consisting of five major strategies and 26 projects, including training, creating a safe working environment, increasing income, and utilizing cultural values.

Key points include one-on-one mentoring for existing and new Haenyeos, establishing a committee to help promote training of new Haenyeos and expansion of the age range of women divers.

As of last year, the number of Haenyeos in Jeju was 2,839, a decrease of 11.9% compared to the previous year.

5대 전략 26개 세부 사업으로 구성된
신규 해녀 양성 추진계획을 확정했습니다.

주요내용을 보면 기존 해녀와 인턴 해녀의 1대 1 멘토링 운영과 신규 해녀 양성 추진 협의체 구성,
초기 정착금 지원 연령 확대 등 입니다.

지난해 기준 제주도내 해녀는
2천 839명으로
전년에 비해 11.9% 감소했습니다.
