The government has completed onsite inspections for the venue selection for next year's APEC summit in South Korea.

From the 20th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has visited candidate cities Gyeongju(경주), Incheon, and Jeju. In Jeju, the Jeju International Convention Center and the MICE Multi-Purpose Complex, scheduled to be completed by August next year, were thoroughly inspected.

During the visit, Jeju showcased its current high-level lodging centered around the Jungmun Complex without the need for excessive new constructions, as well as cultural experiences such as Haenyeo (female divers) culture, demonstrating Jeju's cultural excellence.

Presentations, which is the final step in the selection process, are scheduled for the 7th of next month, and announcements are expected next month.



APEC 현장실사 마무리…"제주 강점 부각"

내년 우리나라에서 열릴 APEC 정상회의 개최지 선정을 위한 정부의 현장 실사가 모두 마무리됐습니다.

외교부는 지난 20일부터 후보도시인 경주와 제주, 인천을 잇따라 방문해 기반시설과 부대 프로그램 중심으로 현장 실사를 진행했습니다.

제주에서는 회의장소인 제주국제컨벤션센터와 내년 8월 준공 예정인 마이스다목적복합시설 등을 꼼꼼하게 살폈습니다.

이 자리에서 제주도는 중문단지를 중심으로 각국 정상을 위한 숙박시설 등 별도의 무리한 신개축 없이
현재 최고 수준의 숙박 인프라를 갖춘 점과 해녀문화 등 제주문화의 우수성을 전파할 수 있는 체험행사를 선보였습니다.

마지막 절차인 후보도시별 제안서 발표는 다음달 7일 예정돼 있으며 최종 후보 도시는 다음달 중순쯤 결정돼 발표될 것으로 예상되고 있습니다.
