Jeju is introducing a QR code payment system for bus fares, which would be the first in the nation in the public transportation sector.

The initiative aims to facilitate the use of public transportation for foreign tourists which would alleviate challenges in purchasing transportation cards.

The system setup is planned to start as early as next month.

Following the introduction of payment systems for traditional markets, foreign tourists' use of travel cards increased by 16 times. The new system is expected to boost foreigners' use of public transportation.

제주특별자치도가 대중교통 분야에 현금 없는 버스에 이어 전국에서 최초로 버스 요금의 QR코드 결제시스템을 도입합니다.

교통카드 구입에 어려움을 겪는 외국인 관광객의 대중교통 이용 편의를 돕기 위한 것으로 빠르면 다음달부터 도입하기 위해 관련 시스템을 구축 중입니다.

재래시장에 제로페이, 알리페이를 도입한 후
외국인 관광객의 카드 사용량이 16배나 증가한 만큼 이같은 제도 도입으로 외국인의 대중교통 활성화에 도움을 줄 것으로 제주도는 기대하고 있습니다.
