The number of students per class in Jeju has reached the highest level nationwide, prompting calls for improvements in the educational environment.

According to the Jeju Secondary School Teachers Association, the number of first-year students per class at eight high schools in Jeju City, including Jungang(중앙) Girls' High, is around 30, surpassing the national city average of 22.5 students.

Based on last year's data, Jeju ranks first among 17 provincial and metropolitan education offices, in terms of the number of students per high school class, third in middle schools, seventh in elementary schools, and second in kindergartens.

The Jeju Secondary School Teachers Association points out that this situation increases the burden on teachers. However, they criticize the Jeju education authorities for focusing on establishing a new deputy superintendent position, rather than expanding the number of teachers, and are calling for improvements.



학급당 학생수 전국 최고...교육환경 '열악'

제주지역 학급당 학생수가 전국 최고 수준에 이르러 교육환경 개선이 필요하다는 지적이 제기되고 있습니다.

제주중등현장교사모임에 따르면 올해 중앙여고 등 제주시 동지역 평준화고 8개교의 1학년 학급당 학생 수는 30명 내외로 전국 대도시 평균인 22.5명을 웃돌고 있다고 주장했습니다.

지난해 기준 학급당 학생수를 보더라도 전국 17개 시도 교육청 가운데 고등학교는 1위, 중학교 3위, 초등학교 7위, 유치원은 2위로 나타났습니다.

이에따라 중등현장교사모임은 이로 인해 교사들의 생활기록부 작성이나 수업 부담으로 다가오고 있지만 제주교육당국은 교사 확충 등에 기울이기 보다 부교육감 신설 등 다른 부분에 신경을 쓰고 있다며 개선을 요구했습니다.
