A survey by the Jeju Urban Regeneration Support Center found that 25% of shops in Jeju's Chilseong-ro (칠성로) district are vacant.

The survey covered 66 buildings and 310 shops in Chilseong-ro, revealing that 77 are unoccupied.

By floor, the second floor had the highest number of vacancies with 41 empty spaces, followed by 25 on the first floor and 11 in the basement.

The Jeju Urban Regeneration Support Center noted that many shops in the Chilseong-ro arcade have been left vacant for a long time.

The center suggested revitalizing the old downtown area by using these empty spaces as artist studios, transitioning traditional markets to digital platforms, and expanding the use of local currency.

칠성로 아카이드 상가에 오랜 기간 빈 점포로 방치된 곳이 많다며

예술인창작공간 활용과 전통시장 디지털 전환,
지역화폐 이용 확대 등을 통해
원도심 활성화 방안을 모색할 필요가 있다고 설명했습니다.
