The Jeju branch of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions issued a statement today, reporting that a worker in their 50s, who was involved in sorting tasks at a Coupang logistics center in Jeju, collapsed during work on the 18th and was taken to the hospital but unfortunately passed away.

The KCTU has called for a work stoppage order and a special labor inspection.

They argue that the accident is likely a serious industrial accident caused by the hot and humid conditions and poor working environment.

The union also noted that two casualties have occurred in Jeju within a week since the start of early morning deliveries, but Coupang has not provided a proper investigation or measures to improve working conditions to prevent recurrence. The union is demanding that the company disclose the working conditions and implement protective measures for the workers.

이번 사고가 무덥고 습한 환경과 열악한 노동환경에 기인한 중대재해일 가능성이 높다고 주장했습니다.
