Rainy Season Ends, Heat Begins

Jeju’s rainy season, which started on the 19th of last month, has ended.

The region’s third typhoon, called Gemi, pushed the stationary front north, effectively ending this year's rainy season on the 27th.


In Jeju this year, the rainy season spanned 39 days, approximately a week longer than the typical duration of 32.4 days.

Furthermore, the precipitation during this period was significant.

During 2024’s rainy season, Jeju received 561.9mm of rain.

This is more than 1.5 times the usual of 348.7mm.
With the long and heavy rains retreating, scorching heat is expected to follow.

It will be hot for the time being due to the influence of the North Pacific high-pressure system. Although there are no current rainfall forecasts, there is a continued possibility of showers for the time being. Please take care of your health in the heat.

In this weather, Jeju’s power consumption record has once again broken an all-time high, though all in just five days.

Experts point to a notable increase in power consumption during evening hours. This surge is primarily attributed to people returning home from work and tourists settling into their accommodations and turning on their air conditioners.


The power company expects that due to soaring temperatures, characterized by tropical nights, and the influx of domestic and international tourists, Jeju’s power demand will continue to set new records this year.

This year is expected to be particularly hot, so we expect continuous record power demand until mid-August.

For the time being, temperatures will reach perceived highs of 35 degrees, and tropical nights are expected to continue for now, raising the danger of heat-related ailments.




길었던 올해 장마 끝…본격적인 찜통더위



지난 달 19일 제주에서 시작된 장마가 끝이 났습니다.

지난 27일 사실상 우리나라 올해 장마가 종료된 겁니다.

올해 제주 장마기간은 39일.

평년 32.4일보다 일주일가량 길었습니다.

강수량도 많았습니다.

이번 장마기간 제주지역 강수량은 561.9mm

평년 강수량인 348.7mm의 1.5배 넘는 수준입니다.

길고 많은 비를 뿌린 장마가 물러가며
본격적인 무더위가 이어질 전망입니다.

제주지역 전력수요는
닷새 만에 역대 최고치를 또다시 갈아치웠습니다.

특히 퇴근 후 귀가와
관광객들이 숙소로 복귀하는 저녁 시간대
냉방기 사용량이 증가하며
전력 수요가 급증한 것으로 분석되고 있습니다.

전력거래소는
열대야 등 무더운 날씨와
국내외 관광객 증가 등의 영향으로
올해 제주지역의 전력수요가
계속해서 최고치를 경신할 것으로 전망했습니다.

올해는 특히 무더운 여름으로 예보되고 있어서 8월 중순까지는 계속적인 최대 전력 경신이 이루어질 것으로 전망하고 있습니다.

밤낮없는 무더위가 예상되는 만큼
온열질환 등에 대한 철저한 대비가 필요합니다.
