The Jeju Provincial Office of Education (POE) has officially requested for Jeju April 3rd Incident (Jeju 4.3) related content to be included in elementary school textbooks, following its earlier request.

On the 28th, representatives visited major publishers of elementary social studies textbooks aligned with the 2022 revised curriculum and delivered proposals concerning the Jeju 4.3 incident.

The materials provided were created by current elementary school teachers, based on the Jeju 4.3 Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s report.

The content includes key developments of the Jeju 4.3 incident, the national apology, related historical sites, and the value of the event.

Currently, in the elementary social studies textbooks under the 2015 revised curriculum, only 4 out of 11 approved textbooks include content about the Jeju 4.3 incident.



도교육청, 초등 사회 교과서에 4·3 기술 요청

제주도교육청이 중등교과서에 이어 초등 교과서에도
제주 4.3 내용 반영을 공식 요청했습니다.

지난 28일 2022 개정 교육과정 초등 사회 교과서 주요 출판사를 방문해 제주 4·3 집필 시안을 전달했습니다.

출판사에 전달된 자료는
제주4·3사건 진상조사보고서를 토대로
현직 초등학교 교사들이 작성한 것으로
통일 정부 수립에 대한 주장과
제주4·3의 핵심적 전개 과정과 함께
국가 차원의 사과, 4·3 관련 유적,
4·3의 가치 등에 대한 내용으로 구성됐습니다.

한편 현재 2015개정 교육과정 초등 사회 교과서에는
검정 교과서 11종 가운데
4종에만 제주 4·3 사건이 수록돼 있습니다.
