The construction of the Jeju Second Airport, which had been delayed due to opposition, was finally confirmed nine years after the site was selected.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport announced that the government will proceed with the basic plan for the 'Jeju Second Airport Project.' It will now move forward with design and environmental impact assessments, among other follow-up procedures.

The second airport will be built in the Seongsan-eup area of Seogwipo, covering an area of 5.51 million square meters. It will feature a 3.2 km-long runway, an apron capable of accommodating 28 aircraft in addition to terminals for passengers and cargo.

A project budget of 5.45 trillion won will be injected with a capacity to handle 16.9 million passengers annually.
A second-phase project to expand the capacity to 19 million passengers will be reviewed later.

The Ministry stated that all future steps will follow legal and regulatory processes, and the construction and operation plans will be implemented in consultation with local communities.



국토부, '제2공항 사업' 본격화…기본계획 고시

그동안 첨예한 찬반 갈등 속에 속도를 내지 못했던 제주 제2공항 건설 사업이
입지 선정 이후 9년 만에 정부 계획으로 확정됐습니다.

국토교통부는 정부가 추진 중인
'제주 제2공항 건설사업' 기본계획을 고시하고
설계와 환경영향평가 등 후속 절차를 추진할 계획이라고 밝혔습니다.

제2공항은 서귀포시 성산읍 일대 551만 제곱미터 면적으로 조성되며
주요 시설로 길이 3.2km 활주로 1본과
항공기 28대를 수용할 수 있는 계류장,
여객과 화물 터미널 등이 들어섭니다.

총 사업비는 5조 4천 5백억 원, 연간 처리 여객수는 1천 690만 명 규모이며 1천 9백만 명까지 확장하는 2단계 사업은 추후 검토 예정입니다.

국토부는 기본계획 고시를 계기로 향후 절차를
법과 규정에 맞게 진행할 예정이며 공항 건설과 운영 방안은 지역과 협의해 추진하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
