An international seminar to explore ways to utilize Jeju basalt as industrial material was held on the 5th at the Jeju Free International City Development Center.

Attendees included Professor Bae Sung-cheol (배성철) from Hanyang University's Department of Architectural Engineering and George Gorolaz, a representative from the German basalt fiber industry. The potential for industrial applications of fibers extracted from basalt were among the topics discussed.

Professor Bae highlighted that, based on a comparative analysis of basalt components from Jeju and Germany, Jeju's basalt is an eco-friendly and sustainable industrial resource and very much alike to Germany’s basalt.

제주 현무암의 산업소재 활용 방안 모색을 위한
국제 세미나가 지난 5일 제주국제자유도시개발센터에서 열렸습니다.

이번 세미나에는 배성철 한양대 건축공학부 교수와 조지 고롤라즈 독일 현무암 섬유 대표 등이 참석해 최첨단 기술을 이용해 현무암에서 추출한 섬유의 산업 소재 활용 가능성에 대해 논의했습니다.

특히 배성철 한양대 건축공학부 교수는 제주와 독일의 현무암 성분 분석 결과 발표를 통해 제주의 현무암도 철근 대체제 등 다양한 산업 소재로 활용중인 독일의 현무암과 큰 차이가 없다며 친환경적인 지속 가능한 산업소재로서의 잠재 가능성을 설명했습니다.
