The number of DUI cases where individuals are caught driving personal mobility devices under the influence of alcohol is on the rise.

According to data submitted by Democratic Party Representative Wi Seong-gon from the National Police Agency, the number of license cancellations due to drunk driving on personal mobility devices increased from 2 cases in 2020 to 26 cases in 2022, and 20 cases last year.

So far this year, 13 cases have been recorded as of August, showing an upward trend.

Meanwhile, under the current Road Traffic Act, personal mobility devices are subject to the same drunk driving regulations and penalties as automobiles.

더불어민주당 위성곤 의원이 경찰청으로부터 제출받은 자료에 따르면 지난 2020년 2건이던 개인형 이동장치 음주운전 면허 취소 사례는 2022년 26건, 지난해 20건을 기록했습니다.

올 들어서는 지난8월 까지 13건으로 증가 추세를 보이고 있습니다.

한편 현행 도로교통법상 개인형 이동장치 역시 자동차와 동일한 음주운전 단속과 처벌 기준이 적용됩니다.
