The potential establishment of a station for the Dongbu Coast Guard under Jeju’s jurisdiction, which oversees the second-largest maritime area in the country, is gaining attention.

The Korea Coast Guard has been conducting a study analyzing the security needs of Coast Guard jurisdictions nationwide since the beginning of this year, with the final results expected as early as next month.

The study includes a proposal for the establishment of a Dongbu Coast Guard station in Jeju, and if deemed feasible, discussions regarding organization and budget will proceed with the government.

Since February this year, 5,800 square kilometers of Jeju’s eastern region have been designated as a special patrol area, with large patrol ships permanently deployed, prompting ongoing discussions about establishing the Dongbu Coast Guard station.

타당성이 확보될 경우
조직과 예산 관련 정부 협의가 진행됩니다.

올해 2월부터
제주 동부권 5,800 제곱키로미터가
특별경비수역으로 지정돼
대형 경비함정이 상시 배치된 가운데
동부 해경 신설 논의가 꾸준히 제기되 왔습니다.
