Unusual weather has increased heat damage, pushing this year’s open-field tangerine yield below initial projections.

According to the Korea Rural Economic Institute, this year’s open-field tangerine production is expected to reach 378,000 tons, a 6.8% decrease from last year.

This estimate is approximately 30,000 tons lower than the early September forecast of 408,000 tons from the Jeju Citrus Survey Committee and the Jeju Agricultural Technology Institute.

The institute cites reduced cultivation area, cyclical fluctuations in the Seogwipo region, and worsening heat damage as key factors behind the lower yield.

한국농촌경제연구원이 발표한 이달 농업관측정보에 따르면
올해산 노지감귤 생산량은 37만 8천여톤으로
전년 대비 6.8% 감소할 것으로 예상됐습니다.

제주도 감귤관측조사위원회와 제주도농업기술원이 지난 9월 초 내놓은 예상 생산량 40만 8천여톤보다 3만톤 가량 줄어든 전망치입니다.

연구원은 재배면적 감소와 서귀포시 지역 해거리,
열과 피해 발생으로 생산량이 감소할 것으로 전망했습니다.
