The Jeju branch of the National School Staff Union announced that a school kitchen assistant who worked at elementary and high schools in Jeju for 14 years, was diagnosed with Stage 1 lung cancer.

They claimed this was due to prolonged exposure to harmful gases or particles, known as cooking fumes, which are classified as carcinogens released during cooking.

The union emphasized that the Workers’ Compensation and Welfare Service should recognize A’s case as an industrial accident.

Additionally, the union called for extended health investigations for school cafeteria workers and urged improvements to ventilation in school kitchens.

조리실무사로 근무했던 A씨가
지난 달 폐암 1기로 확진됐다며
이는 요리할 때 발생하는 유해가스 또는 입자이자 발암물질로 알려진
조리흄에 오랜시간 노출됐기 때문이라고 주장했습니다.

이에따라 근로복지공단은
A씨에 대해 산업재해로 인정해야 한다고 강조했습니다.

이와 함께 현재 부분적으로 이뤄지는
학교 급식 종사장에 대한
건강 검진을 확대하고
급식실 환기 개선을 촉구했습니다.
