The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries South Sea Fisheries Management Service and the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency will be intensively collecting illegal set nets installed in Jeju waters.
The MOF has been carrying out this collection operation since October of last year, particularly utilizing two 90-ton-class stow net fishing vessels that were decommissioned and refurbished for use in the dismantling efforts.
Through this initiative, 13 set nets have been removed, and 4 tons of illegally caught fish were discovered on-site and released back into the sea.
The MOF plans to secure an additional dedicated dismantling vessel this year and invest 3 billion KRW to continue the removal of abandoned and illegal fishing gear.

해수부, 우리측 해역 불법 어구 '범장망' 집중 수거
해양수산부 남해어업관리단과 한국수산자원공단이 우리측 해역에 불법 설치된 범장망 어구를 집중 수거합니다.
해수부는 지난해 10월부터 수거사업을 진행중이며 특히 감척된 90톤급 안강망 어선 2척을 정비해 철거 현장에 활용하고 있습니다.
이를 통해 현재까지 범장망 어구 13통을 철거했고 현장에서는 불법 조업한 어획물 4톤을 확인해 해상 방류했습니다.
해수부는 올해 철거 전용선을 추가 확보하고 예산 30억 원을 투입해 폐어구와 불법어구 철거사업을 진행할 계획입니다.
