Foreign fishing vessels engaged in illegal activities in South Korean waters have been repeatedly caught by the Coast Guard.
According to the Jeju Coast Guard, on the morning of the 6th, at approximately 8:40 AM, a Chinese vessel was caught operating without permission approximately 140 km southwest of Chagwido (차귀도) Island.
Earlier, on the afternoon of the 3rd, another Chinese trawl vessel was caught illegally operating 126 km southwest of Marado (마라도). The vessel turned off its Automatic Identification System (AIS) and attempted to flee but was captured. Over the course of four days, from the 2nd to the 5th, a total of three foreign vessels engaged in illegal fishing were detained.
The Coast Guard plans to strengthen its crackdown on illegal foreign fishing vessels this year through surprise inspections and other measures.
