The interior furnishings and items for sale remain untouched.
The sudden closure of this popular spot was due to illegal subleasing discovered during an audit.
The village association, which had leased the closed school facility for free from Jeju education authorities, was found to have illegally subleased it to a private business operator, generating improper profits.

Jeju education authorities terminated the use contract with the village association and announced plans to repurpose the facility as an educational institution.
However, opinions on its specific utilization remain divided.
Some local governments have proposed building public housing on the school site.
Others have suggested using the facility as a preschool education center or an environmental school, which are lacking in western Jeju.

학생 수 감소로 폐교된 학교시설을 리모델링해 인기 명소로
주목받았습니다.
하지만 지난해까지 매일 관광객들의 발길이 끊이지 않던 이 곳은
올들어 갑작스레 영업을 중단했습니다.
실제 내부 집기나 판매되던 물품은 아직 정리조차 안됐습니다.
인기 명소가 하루 아침에 문을 닫은 이유는
감사 과정에서 불법 전대 행위가 적발됐기 때문입니다.
마을회가 제주교육당국으로부터 무상으로 임대받은 폐교시설을 개인사업자에게 불법으로 재임대해 부당이득을 취득한 사실이 들통났습니다.

이게 마을에다가 (임대)했더니만 자꾸 이런 문제가 생겨서 수익만 접근해서 우리 교육용지를 가지고 수익 사업한다는 건 말이 안 되거든요.
제주교육당국은 마을회와 맺은 폐교 재산 사용계약을 중도 해지하고
앞으로 교육시설로 활용하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
하지만 구체적으로 어떻게 활용할지를 두고 의견은 분분합니다.
지방자치단체에서는 학교 부지 등에 공동주택을 지어 활용하자는 의견을
제안했습니다.
일각에선 제주 서부지역에 부족한 유아교육센터나 환경학교 등으로
활용하자는 의견도 나왔습니다.

한계를 보여왔다는 지적을 받고 있습니다
실제 제주지역의 문을 닫은 학교 10곳 가운데 4곳 꼴로
활용방안을 찾지 못하고 방치되고 있습니다.
교육감이 폐교 시설을 공공 교육인프라로 활용하겠다는 방침을 천명한 가운데 이 곳을 구체적으로 어떻게 활용할 지 지역 사회의 관심이 쏠리고 있습니다.
